Jim is in his fourth season as the Head Varsity Baseball coach at Verrado, as well as an Assistant Varsity Football coach. After spending two years at New Direction where he teached History and PE, Jim is now teaching full-time on campus at Verrado.  Growing up in Arizona, Jim graduated from Westview High School and attended Glendale Community College before transferring to Lyon College in Arkansas where he played baseball while earning his Bachelor's Degree.  After college, Jim returned to Westview where he taught and coached for three years, and earned his Master's Degree. Jim and his son Connor, reside in Phoenix.


Tyrone Egbert - Varsity Assistant        coachegbert@verradobaseball.com

Tyrone is an Assistant Varsity Baseball coach at Verrado, and in his fourth year with the program.  He is also a pitching instructor for the AZ Angels Scout teams.  He grew up and graduated high school in Utah, and then played baseball at the College of Eastern Utah, and the University of Utah.  He moved to Arizona in 2001 and took a position as a Manager in Reimbursement Operations.  Tyrone has a son, Peyton, and resides in Glendale.

Josh is an Assistant Varsity Baseball coach at Verrado, and in his fourth year with the program.  He is also the Director of Player Development for Extreme Baseball and the Rangers Scout teams.  Josh was born in Joplin, MO and spent a large amount of his childhood in Denver, CO.  He has been a valley resident for over 12 years, and graduated from Westview HS in Avondale where he was an All-Region First Baseman in 2000.  He completed his Bachelors in Broadcasting from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University in 2004.  Josh resides in Phoenix with his wife Nikki, and their 2 year-old daughter Rylee.

Ellis Burks - Varsity Assistant

Ellis is in his second year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Varsity team.  The #20 overall pick in the 1983 MLB draft by Boston, Ellis enjoyed 18 seasons with the Red Sox, White Sox, Rockies, Giants, and Indians, and was a 2x All-Star, 2x Silver Slugger recipient, and Gold Glove award winner.  Ellis currently works as a Special Assistant in Goodyear with the Cincinnati Reds.

Mickey Van Kirk – Junior Varsity Head Coach      mvankirk@aguafria.org

Michael (Mickey) Van Kirk is in his third season with the Junior Varsity Vipers.  Mickey teaches Business & Marketing in the Career and Technical Education Department at Verrado, and is also an assistant football coach.  Growing up in Phoenix, Mickey attended Apollo HS and Arizona State University.

Scott Martinez – Junior Varsity Assistant

Scott begins his third year with the Junior Varsity Vipers baseball team.  A graduate of Westview HS, Scott played baseball at South Mountain CC, and then played quarterback for the football teams at Eastern Arizona and Southern Utah University.  Scott went on to play professionally for Tri-Cities in the Arena 2 Football League.  After playing, he became an assistant football coach at Contra Costa College in Richmond, CA.  Since moving back to the Valley in 2009, he has coached baseball and football at Verrado, and is currently an assistant football coach for his dad at Millennium HS.  Scott resides in Buckeye with his wife, Monica.

Clint Bushbaum – Freshman Head Coach                cbushbau@aguafria.org


Clint begins his second season as the Head Coach of the Freshman Vipers baseball team.  He teaches Weightlifting in the Physical Education Department at Verrado, and is an assistant coach for the Freshman football team.  Prior to coming to Verrado, Clint taught P.E. in th Peoria District for six years.  Originally from Iowa, Clint played football at Iowa State University and earned his Master's degree from Northern Arizona University.  Clint is married and they have a baby daughter.

Joel Marsden – Freshman Assistant

Joel is in his second year with the Vipers baseball program as a Freshman assistant coach.  In 2011, Coach Marsden helped Coach Bushbaum lead the Freshman to a 14-2 record, a Freshman level best at Verrado.
