Viper Award

The equivalent of a “Team MVP,” the Viper Award is presented to the team’s most outstanding performer throughout the course of the season.

A recipient of the Viper Award not only excels on the diamond, but represents the team on and off the field as a leader for his teammates, an example for his peers, and an ambassador for Verrado Baseball.

The Viper Award is selected by the Varsity coaching staff at the conclusion of the season.

2009 Viper Award - David Abney

As a junior, David led the Vipers both at the plate, and on the mound.  He had a .476 batting average, .535 on-base percentage, and 30 hits on the season, all team bests.  He had 13 RBI's and scored 15 runs, as well as a team-high 8 multi-hit games.
On the mound, David threw the team's first Varsity no-hitter, a 16-strikeout gem at Buckeye High School on April 7, 2009.  He finished the season setting the school's mark at 70 strikeouts in 61 innings (10 appearances), as well as five complete games on a 4.70 ERA and 4-5 overall record.
